How a simple card can encourage kindness and create joy
October 5, 2020 | Contributor: Cricut Blog Team
Whether you’re new to Cricut® and just discovering us or you’re already a member of our community, we’d like to welcome you with a little kind note:

Sometimes, a simple reminder like this is all it takes to make someone’s day.
While many of you know us for our unique crafting products, so much of our inspiration comes from you—including all the ways you encourage kindness through the projects you make.

Like Omayra Casanova-Alicea who created cards to say thank you to nurses at her hospital.

Or Alicia Jane, a teacher, who sent 21 little notes to brighten her students’ day while they were stuck at home.

And Megan who created custom cards for residents at a senior living facility when they couldn’t see family or friends due to COVID-19 lockdowns.
It’s not just the receiver who feels that warmth. The act of doing something for others can bring you happiness too.
There are infinite ways to be kind. Why not start with something simple, like giving a card.
The benefits of being kind
Science backs up the benefits of doing something kind for someone else.
The kinder you act toward others, the better you will feel.

Imagine how even the smallest act of kindness can create a domino effect.
We spend so much time texting and tweeting that sometimes we forget what it’s like to tell someone how we feel through a physical act.
Cardmaking is more than a simple craft, it’s a way to show someone you care.

I love making cards—it’s paper that packs a thoughtful punch, which in my humble opinion is the best kind of paper. Check out some of my cardmaking tips below!

I am not on Instagram and I don’t want to start an account just for this. It would be nice if you would just be able to post on Facebook. During the summer I had made 20 handmade cards, not the insert cards, for Misericordia. each year we have a service day where I work, and this year because of covid-19, one of the things you were able to do was to send homemade cards or notes.
Hi Jo, thank you so much for sharing your story. If you want to email makekindness@id-pr.com we will add your cards to the count! We’re just starting to make cards for the program. Thank you for all the wonderful cards you’re sending!
Hi. I make cards all the time for the holidays and birthdays for my family. It’s so easy to make them extra special. Im also not on Instagram but love the idea!
I haven’t a clue about Cricket. I am eager to begin designing items to sell. What machine or what’s first step? I’m interested in perhaps creating bags, tshirts, wallet cases, etc. but I don’t know how this works. Is there a tutorial to help “green” individuals learn what machine to choose, I have TONS of Cricket fonts, etc.
HELP ME!!!
Hi Constance,
Please check out our “Which Cricut smart cutting machines are right for you?” post. It compares our different machines to help you find which one fits best for your interests. We also have a lot of beginner resources on our help.cricut.com site as well as our YouTube Channel. Hope that helps!
I’m in the process of making cards using my Cricut Joy and the card inserts to give to the residents of our local nursing home. In addition to the general kindness cards I am also making birthday and holiday cards for them. There are approximately 50 residents in this nursing home.
Sandra, you are awesome! Thank you for sharing. We’d love for you to share what the cards look like on Instagram using the hashtag #makekindness (if you have an Instagram). Or you can email pictures to makekindness@id-pr.com. We would love to share amazing cards you and other members are making!
I haven’t had much time at all to be on my maker n now bought the joy as I’m a foster mom I could use all the help I can get plz n thank you.
I’d like to make these cards on my Maker, but when I click on the link above for the Maker, it opens the web based Design Space and when I log in on the current version, no card projects open up. Can you please help me find these cards?
Hi
I’ve started making cards and would like to know if you would like them? I’m doing this to support the cause because @officialcricut posted about #MakeKindness
It said in your Blog that the images are FREE until the end of the year but I did not see where an actual DUE DATE. I will continue making these cards, please let me know where you would like me to send them so you can distribute. For every card I make I’ll send you the original and I’ll send @bearlyarts the debossed/reverse version of the same card.
Thank you,
@MomsCraftingAdventures
I am a long-time Cricut user. I have purchased the original and all the others in between. At first I didn’t see a need for the Joy, but omgoodness, this will make card making so much quicker! And less messy! What a fantastic idea! You all at Cricut have done it again! 👏 Bravo!
I love my Cricut. I have purchased all of the latest machines made by Cricut. I really want a Mystery Box. It seems I miss out on the sale each time. I am 65 and retired with a stroke and my crafts keep me busy and is good therapy as well. I really like the patterns that are give here for mask masking. I am a former health care worker and I make them. They are fun and easy to make and design. Just to share a bit of information to others, the infusible ink is so cute and easy to work with, but the best recommendation I have is that you use the easy press as recommended, it works the best. I also like the mini iron, it help to get small projects done and it is great to use when making projects that have to be sewn for example the masks. I am not an expert but I am willing to answer any questions and help other that is new to this wonderful life of crafting.
I have a cricut maker and want to make cards. can I make cards wirh this? and if so where do I get the card mat and cards?
Hi Billie,
Yes, you can make cards with Cricut Maker. However, the card mat is exclusive to Cricut Joy, so there is not a card mat for Cricut Maker or Cricut Explore machines. To make a card on Cricut Maker, you will need to find the image from the library of your desired card (use the search bar with a relevant keyword) and create the card. These image sets of Insert Card Corners and Quick Corner Cards may help.
