3 ways to use your Czech Quilt Block of the Month

Folk art-inspired Czech quilt block

Like the blocks that came before, traditional and native flower patterns inspire the Czech quilt block. This folk-art depiction of the Czech national flower follows inspiration from Master Folk Artist Marj Nejdl.

This take on the folk art design maintains the look, color, and feel of the rest of the Quilt of the Month quilt, while still lending its own flair to recognize the unique qualities that the Czech floral pattern represents.

Whether you’re making these designs for your quilt, or just love the pattern, there are plenty of other ways to use these monthly floral blocks. Check out these three ways to incorporate quilt blocks into every day items!

1. Quilted shirt

Why limit your block to a blanket left at home? Instead, try making a quilted shirt or sweater, and proudly wear your design to show it off wherever you go. Use HTV for the flexibility and freedom of ironing on your design, or add your stitches for more texture and dimension.

2. Laptop or accessory bag

Give your hardware a softer look with a homemade accessory pouch. All you need to do is add a back layer, and attach a zipper on top to make a bag out of it. Don’t want to bother with a zipper? Make a sleeve instead. Check out this post from Hello Creative Family on a 1-hour DIY laptop sleeve.

3. Pot holders

This simple alternate project takes just one quilt block and a little bit of protective batting to give it a whole new purpose. Need some how-to guidance? Try this video from Riley Blake Designs on easy ways to make a pot holder from any quilt block.
