You’ll Never Believe These are DIY Home Projects

February 24, 2017 • Contributor: Cricut Marketing Manager Lauren Duletzke

This month at Cricut has been all about home décor! We’ve had so much fun making over rooms, DIYing walls, and working with amazing home stylists. It never ceases to amaze me how much I learn at Cricut when it comes to being creative and making projects so personal. You really do get a sense of joy when you finish a project and get to display it at home – I can’t tell you how many people come over and say to me, “You made that, how can I do that?!”

Well, you can do it! Don’t ever feel afraid to harness your creative side and give your home a pop of color with vinyl walls or redo those basic pillows with a fun iron on phrase. Once you start, you’ll never stop!

To honor all the incredible home décor projects our community has made this month, we’re going to do a roundup of some of our favorites that will make you want to DIY everything ...

The Contemporary Clock

This stencil clock by Tatertots and Jello has us in awe. This is actually a Make It Now project in Design Space, so if you love it, go make it right now! We absolutely love stencil projects and a lot of people don’t know you can use make stencils with Cricut and use paint, or chalk paint, or other materials to create amazing textured patterns.

A Lovely Floor

Did you ever think you could actually pattern your floor with a stencil or vinyl? Well you can! Here is a link to Cricut’s vinyl material that you can use for something like this. You can either use an existing pattern in Cricut Design Space OR design your own! This design is super dreamy and has us already planning our next floor renovation.

Fall in Love With This Mantel

Who ever thought to take sheet music and make a mantel piece? We love this romantic décor so much. It’s a great use of old sheet music that you could find at an antique store or if you’re a musician and have extra sheets.

The Must Have Mustache Mug Collection

Raise your hand (or tell us in the comments) if your family would LOVE these mustache mugs?! We’re raising our hands over here! These mugs are so easy to make, all you need is the base mug, go into Design Space and find different mustache patterns, and cut them on vinyl or you can do glass etching to create a super fun collection for your kitchen.

Time in A Bottle

What an amazing way to celebrate your family heritage with this unique bottle gallery of photos. You can really mix it up by taking down those standard frames and finding unique bottles from different antique or home stores. We’ve even seen this done with wine bottles, which are super fun too. You can see a project similar to this in Design Space, where one of our home stylists created a phrase to put in a transparent lamp base. So easy to make!

A Planter Worth Hanging Around For

These show-stopping planters are literally blowing our minds! You seriously have to see this tutorial that The Crafted Sparrow did using her Cricut to make these amazing planters. There is nothing like a unique hanging plant to give your home a fresh feeling.

Cling On to This Project

Window Cling Image

Window cling is such a fun material to work with but I feel it’s totally underutilized. We’re obsessed with this unique hexagon window cling pattern that gives this glass frame a frosty look – perfect for the transition from winter to spring. It’s simple, versatile, and you can put it in rooms like a study or living room to add some texture to the room. This is also a Make It Now project!

Spruce Up Your Furniture

OK, this might be one of our favorite projects, when we can transform plain furniture with a fun pattern or design. This bright colored side table paired with a navy vinyl spiral pattern is such a cool method to make your furniture really stand out.

Show Your Wall You Care

Wall Gallery Image

Who doesn’t love a good wall gallery? Wall galleries are the best when they’re personal to the people and things you love. This heart wall gallery piece is perfect for a baby’s room – it’s so simple and sweet. You could also use it in a rustic or farmhouse style entry way, like we have it displayed in Design Space – oh yeah, and you can make this one too!

A Unique Way to Grow Up

Grow Chart Image

This aged wood growth chart might be one of the coolest, and most unique, ways we’ve seen a parent track their kid’s height! The stencil chevron stripes are so modern paired with the raw wood. Thank you Design, Dining + Diapers for showing us how to go outside the box!

Honestly, these are just some of our DIY home décor favorites … to see more, head on over to our home décor Pinterest page (you’ll be totally enamored by all the projects!). It truly amazes us how creative our Cricut community is – we’re never at a loss for inspiration or creativity! Make sure you keep sharing your projects with us using the hashtag #mycricutstory on social.

Lastly, and I know we’ve told you this multiple times but we’re just SO excited about it … don’t forget to sign-up for our home décor contest where you can get a total bedroom makeover. It’s too good to miss out on and it ends TODAY!

Tutorial: Rustic Nightstand with a Vinyl Stencil & Paint

January 24, 2017 • Contributor: Katie Adams of The Crafty Blog Stalker

Do you dream of having a beautifully styled bedroom just like you see in the magazines? Dream no more and actually start creating that amazing room.

Hi! I am Katie and I blog at TheCraftyBlogStalker.com. Don’t you love that “I made that!” feeling that comes with DIY? At The Crafty Blog Stalker you will find many different types of tutorials that will help you feel confident in what you are creating so you can show off that finished project with a big ol’ smile.

Katie Adams

Recently, I was asked to participate in a challenge with 5 other bloggers to create a gorgeous Industrial Rustic themed bedroom using the Cricut and furniture from Hayneedle.com.

This Iron Gate Nightstand was just one of my projects. It came together even better than I imagined and was so much fun to complete. Below are some of my tips and tricks for this project. Make sure to visit Cricut to see all of the other projects and the finished room.

I started with the Abbyson Living Northwood 2 Drawer Nightstand from Hayneedle and used the Cricut Explore Air 2 to cut my stencil out of vinyl.

To cover the entire top of the nightstand the stencil is sliced into 4 pieces. Before laying each quarter of the stencil down, find the center point by lightly drawing and X with a pencil corner to corner. Then, align the inner corner of each stencil piece along that center point.

The reason I chose a whitewash technique is because I wanted the grain of the wood to be visible through the paint that was applied. To whitewash, wipe the paint onto the surface with a damp rag and then wipe the excess away with another damp rag. This may take several coats until you get the look and density of the paint you want.

Make sure to apply the stencil to the side of the drawers for a fun peekaboo look! Use the same whitewash technique as the top of the nightstand.

You can see below how the peekaboo drawers look when they are pulled out from the nightstand.

The Iron Gate Nightstand is the perfect addition to your Industrial Rustic Bedroom and you’ll love it even more because you designed it yourself.
