Katie Adams

Recently, I was asked to participate in a challenge with 5 other bloggers to create a gorgeous Industrial Rustic themed bedroom using the Cricut and furniture from Hayneedle.com.

This Iron Gate Nightstand was just one of my projects. It came together even better than I imagined and was so much fun to complete. Below are some of my tips and tricks for this project. Make sure to visit Cricut to see all of the other projects and the finished room.

I started with the Abbyson Living Northwood 2 Drawer Nightstand from Hayneedle and used the Cricut Explore Air 2 to cut my stencil out of vinyl.

To cover the entire top of the nightstand the stencil is sliced into 4 pieces. Before laying each quarter of the stencil down, find the center point by lightly drawing and X with a pencil corner to corner. Then, align the inner corner of each stencil piece along that center point.

The reason I chose a whitewash technique is because I wanted the grain of the wood to be visible through the paint that was applied. To whitewash, wipe the paint onto the surface with a damp rag and then wipe the excess away with another damp rag. This may take several coats until you get the look and density of the paint you want.

Make sure to apply the stencil to the side of the drawers for a fun peekaboo look! Use the same whitewash technique as the top of the nightstand.

You can see below how the peekaboo drawers look when they are pulled out from the nightstand.

The Iron Gate Nightstand is the perfect addition to your Industrial Rustic Bedroom and you’ll love it even more because you designed it yourself.

What’s New: Cuttlebug, Glitter, & Bags, Oh My!

January 11, 2017 • Contributor: Cricut Product Marketing Manager Cortney Haymond

Hey Everyone, welcome to 2017. I am so excited to start this year off by telling you about my favorite new items.

A Match Made in Heaven

First off our new Cuttlebug. I will be the first to admit that the Cuttlebug confused me. However, after seeing it in action, and seeing what it could do, I became obsessed. I am not even joking, I had to have one. Now I use it all the time. So the fact that I can now match my Cuttlebug to my Cricut Explore Air 2 is well… okay let’s just get real. I love matching items, I think they are adorable, and if they exist I buy them (much to my husband’s dismay).

More Matching!

Oh the tools… again with the matching. They are adorable!!! I mean seriously how could you honestly say no to tools that one, solve all of your crafting needs and two, match your machine.

All That Sparkles

Okay, moving on. Another one of my favorite items this month is our new Glitter Tape. Not to add to the whole “Girls love things that sparkle,” stereotype, but…I LOVE THINGS THAT SPARKLE. I can’t get enough of it. We released a Glitter Tape sampler that you can find in a retail craft store near year or you can find it and the 12 other individual colors on Cricut.com. My favorite colors are the Teal and the Sapphire Blue.

Neat Bags

Now, I actually loved everything that we released this month, but I am just going to talk about one more.

The bags!!!

I love these bags!

The Shoulder Bag, the Machine Tote, and the Rolling Tote. I have two words… Organizational Heaven *Cue heavenly music*...

If you are anything like me your craft room is frequently in a state of chaos. Not in the “I never clean any of this up chaos,” but rather the “where do I put everything in this tiny room” chaos. These bags are the answer. Seriously though, I can put my materials, mats, tools, pens, and my Cuttlebug, just in the Rolling Tote alone.

Cricut Bags

The other thing I love about these bags is that they are portable. If my friend decides to have a last minute craft night at her house (it happens a lot), I can just grab the bag that is full of supplies and go. Rather than finding a bunch of plastic bags to fit everything I want to bring, which what I have been doing. I can roll the bag into a closet for more floor space, or into the middle of the floor for more closet space. It’s the best!

Biggest win for these bags…They look way better than those plastic bins that I seem to keep accumulating in the corners of my craft room to hold everything.

Now you can see why they are my favorite right? I would love to hear what your favorites Cricut things are! Leave a comment below and let me know if you have a favorite item or go to project!

Tutorial: Organize with These Adorable DIY Laundry Bags

January 9, 2017 • Contributor: Pretty Providence

I'm Sarah from Pretty Providence and I'm so excited to be sharing my new laundry organization with you today. I really needed a space-saving solution for sorting the laundry in my bedroom. Regular hampers were taking up too much space and I didn't like how they looked either! I fell in love with these bags a few months ago and I love having them hung up on the wall, taking up very little space and looking super pretty with the hand-lettered labels!

Here is what you'll need to make your own laundry station like mine! (Everything is linked!)

To label the bags, download these designs to your computer. To do so, just open the link and save to your desktop.

You can also use any font in in Cricut's Design Space. Either way, once you are ready to cut - upload your design into Cricut Design Space. Choose ‘upload image’ then ‘simple image’, ‘cut only’, then ‘insert’. Then you can size it to fit your laundry bags.

Last step: remember to check the box that sets your machine to cut REVERSE for iron-on designs!

Make sure to lay your vinyl shiny side DOWN on your cutting mat as well before you cut. When it’s cut, weed it out and iron it onto your bags. Peel back the backing after the vinyl is cool to the touch.

Once your bags are all ready to use, hang wall hooks for your bags to hang on. TA DA!
